In a survey conducted by the South Florida Business Journal asking “Do you favor destination gambling resorts”, 65% were in favor, 27% opposed and 8% didn’t care either way.

The Atonement Tablets, a locally produced short independent screenplay made for television, is in post-production and scheduled for completion in November. Local radio legend Neil Rogers was running out of money when he died at 58 last Christmas Eve. The former WQAM-560 AM curmudgeon is believed to have spent almost $3 million in the last 18 months of life, most of it on Christian Hernandez, a 21-year-old boytoy for whom he bought a $700,000 home in Toronto. Rogers reportedly hadn’t paid income taxes for several years before his death, and the IRS could become his estate’s biggest beneficiary, with only $.5 million left. A legal battle over the scraps is brewing between Rogers’ friend in South Florida and Hernandez. Rogers had competing wills written within three weeks in November 2010. One splits assets between Hine, Hernandez and Jonathan Julian, Rogers’ longtime roommate in Plantation. The other makes Hernandez Rogers’ sole beneficiary. (thanks to Jose Lambiet).

Construction on the new $77 million I-95 interchange at Spanish River Blvd. for direct access to the north entrance of FAU and the new stadium opening Oct. 15, has been moved up a couple of years to 2013 and should be finished in two years to relieve traffic on Glades and Yamato Roads. The state also plans to widen I-95 to ten lanes at a cost of $51 million, from Linton to just south of Glades Road, starting in 2016, but some may be HOV lanes.
