Surveys revealed that 60,000 homes in some stage of foreclosure, called the shadow inventory have yet to hit the market, with the general public having little access to them as private investors and hedge funds are snapping up foreclosures and short sales before they even hit the market. Closings indicate 60% are handled by Realtors, when it was once 77%.
