NEW AMERICAN CUISINE SHINES AT 13 AMERICAN TABLE

Owner Alberto “Tucci” Aletto, Chef Anthony Fiorini and a most attentive and knowledgeable staff preside over a noisy, friendly, busy bistro at 451 E. Palmetto Park Road in Boca Raton (561-409-2061).

Barry, with Audrey and Marc sampled a very creative menu, starting with the “Shared Plates” roster. We had the family eggplant; a sweet, soft and superior dish with burrata/crostini and basil. A large portion of a fine BBQ pork belly with a tangy vinegar slaw was followed by a Florida grouper ceviche that had quite a spicy taste of avocado emulsion, grilled corn, tomato, chili and red onion plus lime, cilantro and yucca chips – cool!

FYI – we were shown the restaurant “Josper”, a Spanish multi-tiered grill that imparts a touch of smoke to such foods as the Josper grilled sausage…hearty and delicious and accompanied by a pickled veg salad and whole grain mustard aioli. Josper fired clams had a spicy coconut curry broth, laced with chili, mushrooms, cilantro and lime. Five other dishes complete this portion of the menu.

Titled “Off The Josper”, 7 dishes are offered. We selected an 8 oz. bavette steak, a fine cut which we had divided in half to cook both very- rare and medium versions. Other beef items are a 6 oz. filet and a 16 oz. bone in rib eye. A 12 oz. pork chop, a half chicken, marinated gulf shrimp and seasonal fish complete the listing.
Side dishes are large portions, including our tasting of an excellent corn off the cob with chili aioli, queso fresco, cilantro and lime! The sautéed mushrooms with shallots, thyme and sherry wine were tasty, firm (not rubbery) and delicious. We found the sautéed spinach to be only fair- taste accented the acrid iron within the leaves.

Of the salads listed, we chose their perfect Caesar…shards of romaine in a superior dressing to which we added fine white anchovies.

5 “Sang Wich” offerings included fried mortadella on a roll with provolone, arugula in mustard aioli – a giant tasty treat! All sang wiches come with delicious house fries.

4 desserts, that vary, featured a sweet layered brownie and…a favorite…Rocky Road bread pudding – don’t miss it!

The Chef’s specials change daily – ask your server.

13 American Table offers 16 white and 27 red wines-many by glass as well as bottle. 7 craft cocktails and almost 30 beers are on the menu for your enjoyment.

Established in 2013, this bistro seats 40 inside and another 40 on patio. Open from Monday through Thursday, 5 PM to 10 PM, Friday and Saturday until 11 PM – this is a bright, creative bistro – we suggest that you – Go and Enjoy!
