The city's proposed budget calls for a tax increase, but declining property values mean that many residents will only pay nominally more city property taxes than last year. Under the proposed property tax rate of $3.51 per $1,000 of assessed value — up from $3.40 — the owner of a home assessed at $350,000 with a $50,000 homestead exemption would pay about $1,053.06 in city property taxes, an increase of about $39 per year. The fire tax would also increase $20.
